As EV adoption accelerates, payment convenience has become a key barrier to consumer acceptance – and an opportunity for businesses. EV charging is embedded in a strong ecosystem, and it simply isn’t possible to operate outside of it. A key part of this ecosystem is processing cashless payments, often through the use of apps, QR codes and closed-loop systems that are tied to specific brands or networks.  

But, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Sure, for utilities or fuel station networks with recurring customers and app-based loyalty programs, app-based payments can make sense. But, most Charge Point Operators (CPOs) don’t have that kind of user relationship. At locations like hotels, shopping centers, golf courses, or private parking garages, users want an option that just works; they want to simply charge and go. Requiring an app download creates friction that is off-putting for the driver. And, sometimes, it’s even impossible – if a tourist with no phone service can’t download an app, for example, they can’t pay. 

Making it easy for customers to pay should be a priority for any business. And this is where Nayax shines.  

One device, many ways to pay 

Essentially, Nayax is offering an additional payment option that will appeal to certain customers, which in turn helps the CPO to expand its user base. Our open-loop payment terminal supports multiple payment preferences – digital wallets, contactless cards, and almost everything in between – with no app needed  

So, drivers are no longer inconvenienced by having to download another app, or deal with unstable connectivity. They just tap or scan, and start charging – like they would at a vending machine or self-service terminal. This boosts user satisfaction, and reduces the number of customers who abandon their charging session.  

Simplifying integration  

But, more than that, we offer CPOs an unparalleled experience. Whereas other providers may only supply the terminal, leaving CPOs to figure out the rest – like setting up their own merchant accounts with banks – we go further. When partnering with Nayax, CPOs get plug-and-play payment terminals, together with server-based charger management and built-in billing capabilities, in an all-in-one solution that eliminates the need to independently source chargers, platforms and payment providers, and handle the complex integrations between them.  

With full merchant onboarding, we handle payouts, KYC compliance, refunds, transaction security and more – no external bank negotiations required. We’ve also made major technological shifts, moving away from resource-heavy proprietary APIs to support open standards like OCPI – enabling direct, seamless integration with existing charger ecosystems, and avoiding costly proprietary setups.  

Show me the money 

To truly succeed, CPOs must not only deploy the right infrastructure, they must monetize effectively. That’s why Nayax has designed new commercial models that reduce risk and accelerate profitability. We are currently trialling a program that turns fixed costs into variable costs by tying payments to transactions, rather than a flat fee. If there are no transactions, the CPO doesn’t pay; if there are, they pay a few cents per use.  

We also offer interest-free financing options that convert the cost of the EV charger from CAPEX into OPEX, easing cost barriers for rollout. All this enables CPOs to not only confidently embark on a new EV charging journey, but also to scale easily and affordably when they are ready to do so.  

Smart features for smarter charging  

Once up and running, the features of our solution make operations seamless. Take smart transaction handling, for example. Incremental authorizations enable customers to start small then increase during the session, so as to minimize acquirer payment issues – if authorization fails at any point, we stop charging.  

If the initial authorization fails, we can also prompt users to retry payment with an alternate method, improving uptime and reliability. This optimization results in a more reliable experience for drivers, and more revenue for the CPO.
